Robust, Secure Self-Healing Fiber Optics

New Albany features one of the most robust and affordable fiber optic networks in the country. New Albany Net (also known as Blue Albany) was carefully developed in cooperation with American Electric Power as the company built their electricity transmissions control center in the community. The result is a secure 96-strand, dark fiber optic network.

Bluemile, a next-generation network service provider specializing in carrier neutral collocation and interconnection solutions, manages New Albany Net and provides engineered communication solutions for businesses of all sizes.  The relationship with Bluemile cut network service costs by 30 percent for park tenants while providing access to more than 180 carriers.
Bluemile as an ISP is completely redundant in the core network with multiple transit providers at a minimum OC12 or GIG level.  They utilize Cisco, Foundry and Infinera Networks Equipment and all bandwidth is multi-homed with multiple carriers on the backend.  Backbone links are at a minimum GIG with switches/routers meshed together.  The network utilizes OSPF, BGP, HSRP, and vendor specific.

Another network provider, OARNet, is a dedicated, high-speed fiber-optic network that links Ohio colleges and universities with research facilities to promote research and economic development. Over 1,600 miles of fiber have been purchased to create the network backbone that connects colleges and universities, K-12 schools, and communities together.  Through the New Albany Net, companies have the opportunity to create a direct connection to OARNet and research facilities across the world.
